League Update - 2020 Season Cancelled

Dear parents and players,

It is with great regret that we have had to make the difficult decision to close down the season. We waited until the last possible moment to do so in hopes that we could salvage the season in some way. We all find ourselves in an unusual and unprecedented time. Shortly after the board made that decision, we were informed that the gyms would not be available until next year, anyway, as tryouts and practices for the school cheer and dance, basketball, and volleyball teams will all be needing to host tryouts as soon as the shutdown is lifted, and many of the gyms are not available in the summer.

We are very fortunate in that we had not started match play, where there would have been large numbers of girls and parents in the gym all at the same time. With only two weeks of practice, and with many fewer people in the gyms at one time, exposure from anyone that might have been carriers of COVID-19 was minimal. Our first concern, of course, is the health of your daughters.

The board has voted to give everyone prorated refunds. We have already paid for the girls’ jerseys, gym administrators for the two weeks of practices, and the insurance we must carry to allow the girls to play. However, due to our frugal nature as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we are pleased to announce that we are able to refund everyone $80, primarily due to the wonderful participation of our volunteer coaches.

We also hope that all players will be able to pick up their jerseys, which are for most teams still sealed in the plastic they arrived in. We will practice social distancing and locate a place where all parents can drive through to pick up their daughter’s jersey safely; we will have the jerseys in a central location with those handling the jerseys masked and gloved, with hand sanitizer present for all.

We hope your daughters will be back with us next year, and we look forward to it being a great year. Our organization was built around the need to improve volleyball and support this wonderful sport for girls here in Mississippi. We sincerely hope for your continued support as we go through this difficult time together.

We hope to have the money in your possession as soon as possible. Refunds will go back to the card used for registration, if possible; otherwise, you will be sent a check. Please look for further information on time and location for jersey pick-ups.

Thank you for your understanding.
